We aim to provide all children here with a broad, balanced and interesting curriculum which takes full account of the revisions made to the National Curriculum in 2014. Each term, teachers post Newsletters detailing work to be covered and you can find these under the 'Classes' link to the left. In addition, we have sections on the curriculum which you might like to read in our Prospectus and Foundation Class Booklet which you can find under the 'About Us' above.
Our curriculum is constructed from a blend of experiences we believe to be important and the National Curriculum with its five 'core' subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, Computing and Religious Education. The other subjects we teach, known as 'Foundation Subjects', are Art, Design Technology, History, Geography, Music, Physical Education and Personal, Social and Health Education including Citizenship, with children in Nursery and Year R (Reception) following the Foundation Stage Curriculum.
To support the teaching of reading and writing, we use 'Letters and Sounds' from Reception to help our children to develop the necessary phonics skills. Our school reading programme uses a wide range of reading schemes, including Oxford Reading Tree, PM+, Collins Big Cat and National Geographical organised into colour-coded bands through which children progress at their own rate, until ready to move onto their own choice of literature, usually around the end of Key Stage One or the beginning of Key Stage Two.
We recognise the importance that practical experiences play in a child's development, so sometimes organise special events to inspire and challenge our children. Our subjects are taught through themes to bring relevance, excitement and enrichment to the children's learning. Through this we aim to equip our children with the attitudes, skills and knowledge required to be lifelong learners.
To give you a greater overview of our full curriculum, we have provided below a link to the Two Year Programme of Study for each class. Here you will find a summary of everything we will cover in each subject. However, we are also keen to follow-up important local and national events and also tap-into the interests of our children so there may be some changes from time to time. Please contact us if you would like more details about the curriculum our school is following - we love talking about how we help our children learn!
