Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Statement
We know that some pupils will need something additional to, and different from, what is provided for the majority of pupils; this is special educational provision and we will use our best endeavours to ensure that provision is made for those who need it. At Langtree Community School, we believe that provision for children with special educational needs and/or a disability is a matter for the school as a whole. We believe that all children share the right to have access to a rich and varied curriculum and to receive the most appropriate provision for their needs, which will also enable them to fulfill their potential, to join in with all activities and to enjoy life at school. We ensure that all staff in the school are able to identify and provide for those pupils who have special educational needs or disabilities to allow pupils with SEND to join in the activities of the school.
We embrace the Equality Act (2010). We will not treat children with disabilities less favourably, and we aim to make reasonable adjustments so that children with disabilities are not at a substantial disadvantage. To this end, parents and carers of a child with severe sensory, physical or mobility difficulties are advised to approach the school well in advance of admission so consultations can take place as we are determined that no pupil will be refused admission to our school on the basis of his or her special educational need.
The school has a Special Educational Needs and Disability Policy which is regularly reviewed and updated and is available for download from our 'Policies' page. If you would like to know more about this, please ask at the Office or alternatively you can arrange to meet with Mr Smale, our Head Teacher, or Miss Larrington, our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator. Once your child is in school, you may find that the class teacher will be the most appropriate first port of call.
Meeting the needs of pupils with SEND requires partnership working between everyone involved: the local authority (LA), school, parents-carers, pupils, children's services and all other agencies. Over the last year we have worked alongside: Bluecoat Children's Centre; CAMHS (Children and Adolescent Mental Health Service); Communiciation and Interaction Team; Educational Psychology; Family Support; Great Torrington School; Occupational Health; Physiotherapy Team; Advisory Teachers for Hearing Impaired children and those with physical difficulties; School Health team; Speech and Language Therapists; as well as SENCo colleagues from other local primary schools.
