Class 3

Week beginning 16th May 2022

Over the following weeks, we will continue looking at our text based on the story of Hansel and Gretel written by Neil Gaiman. We have already explored the authors use of language and grammar and we are now moving on to writing a class version and then an independent version of their own.

In maths, our focus is on geometry. We will be recapping our previous learning on shapes, properties of triangles and angles. Then, using this knowledge, applying it to finding missing information and solving problems.

Week beginning 25th April 2022

Over the next few weeks, we will be looking at a text based around the story of Hansel and Gretel written by Neil Gaiman. We will be writing a class version and then reading and creating our own, alternative story.

In maths, our focus is on consolidation of calculation methods as well as moving on to geometric reasoning with a focus on shape, angles and position.

Week beginning 28th March 2022

This week Class 3 have been focussing on story writing about their ‘wanted item’ including aspects of grammar such as fronted adverbials, multi clause sentences and the power of 3.
For Science, we are looking at forces and how these forces act on different objects –both static and moving. We will be investigating (practically) how some of these forces work and how to control them.
In PSHE, we will be taking part in a debate on healthy lifestyles – what does this look like and how much does choice play a part in it.

Week beginning 21st March 2022

Our topic this term is still abut Earth and Space with a specific focus now on light and then forces. We will be taking part in experiments to find out about how we see colour and investigating the best material, size and shape of astronauts (a lego figure!) parachutes for them to return to Earth safely.

In Literacy, we are writing a story based around an area of PSHE with the children imagining they want a new toy but cannot have it instantly.

In maths, we are focussing on the relationship between fractions, decimals and percentages. Year 5 will be looking at how they are similar how to compare them as well as adding and subtracting fractions. Year 6 will be continuing on from converting between FDP to focussing on adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions.
