In English, we are looking at different forms of poetry.
In maths in Year 5, we are learning about solving problems related to measurements involving decimals numbers. We have also started to look at interpreting and constructing line graphs.
In history, we have been learning about the affect the Roman Empire had on Britain, such as building roads and towns.
In Science, we have been learning about forces such as gravity and air resistance.

In English, we are in the process of writing our own training manuals.

In maths in Year 5, we are learning about addition and subtraction numbers with 5 digits using the column method. In Year 6, we are learning two and three step problems involving addition and subtraction.

In history, we have been learning about the Roman Empire and why people decided to join the Roman Army.

In Science, we have been learning about forces such as gravity and air resistance.

Your child was assessed on the statutory Year 5/6 words at the beginning of this term. The words highlighted are the words your child needs to focus on this year. Don’t worry about how many there are, as these words are new to them, just focus on five words at a time. Children will also be assessed again after Christmas and a new highlighted sheet will be given out with the expectation that fewer words will be highlighted. Spelling sheets need to be in school everyday for opportunities to practise, so I advise they keep them in their reading records.

In English, we have just finished writing our own stories and we are starting a new topic about fairy tale characters/ superheroes.

In maths, we are learning about mental calculations and Year 6 have been looking at the order of operations, BIDMAS. Complete the place value recall sheet for your year group (6.1 is Year 6 and 5.1 is Year5).

In history, we have been learning about the Roman Empire and why they invaded Britain. Can you remember the four reasons they invaded?

In English, we been exploring different settings for a story. We have been writing our own setting descriptions in preparation of writing our own stories at the end of the week.

In maths, we are learning about rounding numbers. We have been rounding whole numbers to the nearest 100 and 1000. Complete the place value recall sheet for your year group (6.1 is Year 6 and 5.1 is Year5).

In science, we have been looking at forces. Can you recall the forces we have learnt so far? Draw a picture of a boat what forces can you label?
