Class F Spring Term 2024

13th March 2024

This week we have had the opportunity to create our own playdough animals and safari jeeps in our independent learning. We’ve learnt about animal habitats and discussed the different animals that might live in each.

In PSHE this week Mrs Heard made an extremely unhealthy sandwich! The children gave her advice on might be better fillings to use and started to discuss what we mean by a balanced diet.

This week’s music lesson focussed on playing the notes c, d and f on a glockenspiel we also had a go at improvising in the middle of our ‘Round and Round’ song.

This week we have been busy learning about endangered and extinct animals. We looked at the habitats they live/lived in and created posters to try and save the rainforests. As a class we wrote a letter to the chocolate factories to and discourage them from using palm oil.
In PE we worked really hard to receive a ball when it wasn’t released directly to us. We had to watch the ball carefully and step to either the left or right to catch the ball.
Our PSHE work was focused on being healthy and exercise. We discussed the changes in our body that happen after we exercise.
7th February 2024

This week is Children’s Mental Health Week. This year’s theme is ‘My Voice Matters’ and as part of that them we have been promoting kindness across the school. As part of a whole school project, we have made handprint bunting to decorate our school hall and thought about kind words which we could use to make other people feel happy.

We have also been lucky enough to have the space dome visit us this week. We learnt about the constellations that we can see in the sky and their meanings. We also learnt about the sun and how hot and big it was. We discussed how many ‘moons’ it would take to fill up the whole sun.

In our music lesson we have been learning about Folk music. We learnt how to improvise. One person clapped a rhythm while everyone else copied the rhythm back. We then sang the song ‘In the Groove’ to a folk music background and improvised in the instrumental section.

31st January 2024
This week we have been looking at the book ‘Whatever Next’ by Jill Murphy. We created a story map to show what happens in the story and then had a go at acting it out.
In PSHE we have been thinking about using kind words. We thought of different scenarios where we could be kind to each other and thought about what we might say to a friend.
This week in music we looked at the style Bhangra. We composed our own music using three different notes and then had a go at playing it to the song ‘In the Groove’.

This week we have continued with our space topic. We made a large rocket out of junk to role play in. We painted the body grey and the nose orange. Orange, red and yellow tissue paper was used to make the flames you might see when the rocket gets launched.
This week in music we learnt the song ‘In the Groove’ in a Latin style and had a go at playing the notes ‘c’ and ‘d’ on a glockenspiel. We worked with a group, some people played instruments while others sang. We then swapped over so we all had a go at everything.
In PE we’ve continued to look at ball skills. We worked with a partner to try and kick the ball through a goal. Our partner had to save the ball by using either their hands or feet.

Welcome back!
This week Class F have started to learn about space. In our independent learning we had the opportunity to create some planets by using marble painting. This was messy but really good fun.
In our PSHE session we started a new topic called dreams and goals. During this session we were set a challenge. We had to create a tower using marshmallows and spaghetti. The challenge was fun but really difficult. We discussed how we found the challenge and how it made us feel.
This term in PE we are learning ball skills using our feet. We practiced dribbling a ball with our feet and then stopping it in a specific spot.
